Welcome to Elgin Bears Football.  We have over 60 years of history on Drake Field and we are looking for your child to continue this tradition.  We provide football at six different levels of competition based on age and weight from 5-14 years old. These levels are explained more below.

Our players are taught to follow the guidelines set up by the Positive Coaching Alliance to be a Triple-Impact Competitor.  Our coaches are trained to coach our athletes to make positive contributions in these three levels:

Make oneself better (Personal Mastery)
Make teammates better (Leadership)
Make the sport better (Honoring the Game)
Football teaches players throughout the season important life lessons.  We feel these life lessons stay with our players and provide a life time of gifts including:

  • Discipline
  • Responsibility
  • Self esteem
  • Teamwork
  • Physical development
  • Fun
  • Friendship building
  • Respect for others
  • Social development

All of our football coaches need to fulfill several training courses before they are able to coach in a football game.  These training courses include: 1) obtaining a yearly USA Football Heads Up Certification, 2) attending a Positive Coaching Alliance presentation and 3) viewing Advanced Concussion training video developed by TCYFL.  We know our coaches are trained on more than just football plays making them a great influence on your child.

We continue to strive to provide the best football experiences for all our athletes.  We provide the most comprehensive coaching training as a proud member of TCYFL (The Chicagoland Youth Football League) for nine seasons.  It’s not buying in to our program…it’s believing in our program!

Football Playing Levels

Flyweight (Ages 5-6)

Our full contact program starts with the 5 & 6 year olds and is designed to teach fundamentals and is purely instructional.

Bantamweight (Ages 7-8)

The Bantam level is the first opportunity for our young athletes to keeps score while continuing the process of teaching and mastering fundamentals.

Featherweight (Ages 9-10)

At the Featherweight level, our focus is on continued development including expanding the playbook to some more complex plays and new defensive alignments.

Middleweight (Ages 11-12)

Our Middleweight level is a competitive level in which players continue to work and drill the daily fundamentals of the game while developing an increased passing game and different defensive responsibilities.

Lightweight (Ages 12-13)

The Lightweight level is the most competitive level where middle school football players increase their speed and skills daily and the focus is on the team environment and positional development.

Varsity (Ages 12-14)

The Varsity level consists of the biggest football players in middle school and prepares players like no other level for the high school experience by offering position specific training where size and strength are matched up as often as speed and skill are.
